Description |
Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany communion table by Jonathan Gostelowe, having a rectangular top above horizontal applied carved husk moldings all resting on square tapered and fluted legs ending in spade feet. Incised signed under the top "JONATHAN GOSTELOWE/MAY. 24. 1788. A newer sectional piece had been added to the top and rear rail. According to Church history, this table originally fitted against the Christ Church pulpit . |

Made for Christ Church in 1788 by cabinetmaker Jonathan Gostelowe, a parishioner, whose store was in Church Alley. That same year he made the baptismal font. He was a vestryman in 1792. |
